Canadiens defenseman Josh Gorges was back on the ice Thursday, 12 hours after he suffered a frightening injury during the Habs' win over the Washington Capitals.

He practiced with the team a day after after taking a slapshot to the head with just over 10 seconds to play in the first period on Wednesday night.

Gorges lay motionless on the ice for several minutes after a Mike Green shot hit him near the eye. Gorges was not taken to hospital, but did not return to the game.

Gorges will travel with the team as it prepares to face the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday.
