MONTREAL - Political analysts Jean Lapierre and Robert Libman tried to make sense of the turbulent Canadian political situation on Friday.

On Thursday, the official opposition in Ottawa called for a police probe into claims that the Conservative Party used so-called "robocalls" to help win tight ridings in the last election.

"Those people who prevented people from voting should pay a price," said Lapierre. "We will find out, inquiries are still going on."

In Quebec, Parti Quebecois leader Pauline Marois vaulted to the top of Quebec's polls. Only a few weeks ago, Marois' political career seemed over.

"We've seen so many ups and downs," said Libman. "In Quebec politics we are so quick to write the political obituaries of people, and look what happens a few months later."
