Javier Gomez Noya of Spain won the men’s event at the Montreal International Triathlon on Sunday afternoon in Old Montreal.

Gomez Noya completed the swimming, cycling and running events in 1:47:49, 15 seconds ahead of Norwegian Kristian Blummenfeld.

South Africa's Richard Murray finished third with 52 seconds behind the winner.

Alexis Lepage from Quebec placed 29th with 3:58 behind Gomez Noya, while Canadian Tyler Mislawchuk finished 33rd.

On Saturday Ashleigh Gentle of Australia came in first in the women’s event, followed by Flora Duffy of Bermuda and New Zealand's Andrea Hewitt.

Gentle completed the swimming, cycling and running events in 1: 59: 04, 23 seconds ahead of Duffy and 44 seconds ahead of Hewitt.

"I'm very happy," Gentle exclaimed, visibly moved. “To be honest, I am a bit shocked at the moment, but I am very enthusiastic.”

The Australian climbed to the top of the podium for the first time since her debut on the world circuit in 2011, putting an end to a series of victories for her closest opponent, Duffy.

"My goal was not to break her series, I have a lot of respect for her and that's not what motivated me," she said. “I did what was best for me and winning against an athlete of her caliber is incredible.”

The Montreal International Triathlon is the seventh of nine stages of the ITU World Triathlon Series.
