A Conservative party campaign poster is causing some controversy in Hampstead.
Next to Dorshei Emet Synagogue on Cleve St.in the Mount Royal riding, the sign shows Stephen Harper at the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem and says “Through Fire and Water, Canada will stand with Israel.”
Synagogue president Eeda Rubinger had complained to the Conservative party when the sign was first placed on the synagogue's lawn.
The party then moved it a few feet over onto public land.
The synagogue is non-partisan and is concerned local residents will believe it supports the Tories.
A spokesperson for Conservative candidate Robert Libman, Yana Lukashehsaid his party is within its rights to put the sign there and has no plans to remove it.
