Liberal candidate Anthony Housefather officially opened his campaign office in Cote des Neiges Wednesday evening.

He is the federal Liberal candidate for Mount Royal, hoping to continue representing the riding which was held by his predecessor Irwin Cotler.

To that end Housefather, who is also the mayor of Cote St. Luc, has gathered support and endorsements from many municipal politicians including Cote des Neiges/Notre Dame de Grace borough mayor Russell Copeman.

"I got an opportunity to work with him on files touching the west end and I found him to be well versed on issues, and intelligent and committed to his community. I'm comfortable supporting him," said Copeman.

Housefather thanked his supporters at the office opening.

"They're supporting me because I have a proven track record as a councillor, as a mayor, as someone who has spoken out on behalf of English community and minority communities for over 20 years," said Housefather.

Conservative candidate Robert Libman spent the evening passing out Rosh Hashana baskets for the Jewish new year.
