The families of three women who died when the snow-covered roof of the Gourmet du Village in Morin Heights collapsed are suing the company for negligence.

Barbara Elliott, 54, Marlyn Ofiaza, 46 and Sharon Kirkpatrick, 62 were killed on March 12, 2008.

The civil suit was filed in Montreal court Wednesday against the employers, Concept Mike and Linda Tott, as well as co-owner Mike Tott. The families are seeking damages in excess of $700,000.

It claims that, after two snowstorms that were three days apart in early March of 2008, Tott should have shoveled the roof after warnings from authorities and the media.

The list of 13 family members includes spouses, children and other relatives.
