MONTREAL - A relatively small crowd of about 200 marchers showed up at Emilie-Gamelin Plaza Tuesday evening in Montreal for the 36th consecutive tuition march.

The evening had been marked by a violent storm three hours earlier that caused significant damage and transportation inconveniences in the city.

More storm warnings were in place at the time of the 8:30 p.m. kickoff.

Police declared the protest illegal shortly after its debut on the basis that organizers had not provided them an itinerary.

In Quebec City protesters also held a march which was not deemed illegal, as organizers provided their route to police.

At 9:30 p.m. about 150 protesters then met outside the building where student reps were negotiating with government officials Tuesday evening. Eighty-four protesters were arrested the previous night under similar circumstances.
