Faith leaders and gospel artists gathered at the Imani Family and Full Gospel Church in Little Burgundy Sunday to respond to the crisis in Haiti.

Gospel artists, choirs and a variety of entertainers lent their voices for a 4 p.m. concert entitled "For the Least of These."

The goal is to raise $25,000 for victims of the devastating earthquake in Haiti.

"This is the time when those of us who process our faith, should activate our faith. We can't just preach about helping other, and stand by when others are in need. We have called upon, and have received, a tremendous response from the gospel music community," said Rev. Darryl Gray, concert organizer and church pastor.

All of the funds collected will be donated to World Vision, Red Cross, and other organizations that have direct contact on the ground in Haiti said concert organizers.

"Devastation knows no colour, language or country. Because of the large Haitian community here in Montreal, we have all been affected by what has happened there. There should never be barriers when it comes to supporting those in need, and this tragedy has produced a great need, " Gray added.

The Imani Family and Full Gospel Church is located at 540 Richmond St., corner of Notre Dame St. W.

Sombre mass

Meantime, a special mass was held at the Haitian Evangelical Church in St. Michel on Sunday, the first Sunday service since the massive earthquake hit the Caribbean nation Tuesday.

The sombre service focused on sending prayers to Haiti and offering comfort to those in Montreal waiting for news about loved ones.

A number of police officers were also in attendance to show support for the community; the local minister has been teaching officers Creole.
