A boy was rescued from drowning Wednesday in St. Lazare.

Police are crediting a neighbour with the rescue of a six-year-old autistic boy after he heard the boy calling for help

Looking into a nearby pool he saw a child struggling in the water and ran over to rescue him, pulling him from the water before any serious injuries happened.

The boy was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Police say the boy was known to have a fondness for water.

There is a fence around the pool, which is not on the boy's family's property, and officers think the boy either climbed the fence or a tree to get into the water.
