The family of a missing 14-year-old has had its hopes dashed after viewing a surveillance video that did not contain images of the missing Alma teen.

The family had come to Montreal from the Saguenay region to view the tape which investigators thought might have captured images of the boy in the Montreal metro.

David's father Eric Fortin said he knew right away the boy in the video was not his son.

The video showed footage from Berri UQAM and Jean Talon stations taken last week.

David Fortin has been missing since Feb. 10, when he did not arrive at school that morning. Family members came up from the Saguenay region to see the tape.

Upon heading into the building around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, the family's spirits were up.

"It gives us a reason to live. It gives us hope," said Eric Fortin of the news of the possible sighting.

"We are hoping to find David as soon as possible," added his mother.

"When we think of a child like David, who is so lively, so wonderful, and really great..." said David's Aunt Guylene Lachance. "David is a bright light in our lives. When we wake up we think of him. We will find him. We will find him."

They emerged around 1:30 p.m. They had to meet with a police investigator who had been following the case.

When asked how the family keeps up hope, David's fathered answered that they had no choice, that they simply do.

He also noted that David spent a lot of time on his own, so he thinks he will be able to take care of himself.

He said that if David is listening, they promise to home school him when he returns.
