Beaubien metro station will be closed from early May to the end of August for $3.6 million in repairs, the STM announced Wednesday evening.

The repairs require a complete closure of the station from May 4 to Aug. 30

The work includes everything from refurbishing structural slabs, to electrical work, to a new ventilation shaft, to new stairs and more.

There will also be upgrades to the outside of the station, including new walkways edges, sidewalks, and the addition of trees and shrubs.

Although the station is slated to reopen at the end of August, work will continue until January 2016.

In the meantime, a bus shuttle service will run from Beaubien station to Jean-Talon and Rosemont stations, with two- to six-minute intervals during rush hour and a minimum of ten-minute intervals the rest of the time, while the metro is operating.

The work will be 75 per cent financed by Transports Quebec as part of STM's renovationprogram.

Over the past few years, Jolicoeur, Villa-Maria, Cote-Sainte-Catherine, Charlevoix and George-Vanier stations were also temporarily closed while extensive work was performed.

Beaubien station first opened in October 1966. A total of 3.6 million passengers move through the station each year.
