The Alberta government says that the province has plenty of jobs to fill and is wondering why Quebecers aren't coming out west to take them.

The government posted a note on its website Thursday explaining that it is trying to figure out why Quebecers rarely apply for work in the province.

The Alberta government noted that most of the workers who come to Alberta from outside the province are from the Atlantic provinces.

That pool of available workers is slowly drying up, as major construction projects have been approved in that region and those projects will keep many Atlantic Canadian workers closer to home.

The Alberta government’s website also noted that Quebec workers could fill many jobs and asked whether the low number of Quebec applicants is due to some Quebecers having a negative impression of Alberta.

Alberta also said that it plans to research the question of whether Quebec workers have the skills to fill the vacant jobs and whether those potential employees could be persuaded to move out west.
