Four hundred employees locked out from their jobs at industrial valve manufacturer Velan are going back to work.
The CSN-affiliated Federation of Manufacturing announced that 62 percent of Velan workers voted sided with a deal proposed by the conciliator Louise Létourneau, who was appointed by the Labour Ministry to help the sides reach a compromise.
The workers had been locked out since May 25, days after workers rejected the company’s final offer.
Management said that the new deal provides more flexibility. Velan Montreal union president Jose Sosua said that the union made concessions but ultimately reached an agreement that would maintain jobs.
The new deal gives workers a 7.5 percent increase over three years and an improved pension plan.
“We are very pleased to have reached an agreement with our Montreal employees," said Sabine Bruckert, Velan Vice President of Human Relations said in a statement.
