The newly renovated Vauquelin Square was officially unveiled on Friday Morning and features an interactive water fountain complete with sound and light.

Located next to Montreal City Hall, the square dates back to 1858, and was known as “Neptune Square” at the time. It was renamed Vauquelin Square in 1930.

Recent improvements to the public space include the integration of a staircase and access ramp to Champ de Mars.

Additional seating has been added to the square, as well as heating of the floor, stairs and access ramp to allow for use year-round.

"The new Vauquelin Square is innovative, interactive, connected and exemplary. Its redevelopment meets high standards of heritage preservation, safety, design, quality of materials and execution,” said Montreal mayor Denis Coderre.

The project was funded by both the city and the province.
