Hamza Babou, a UQAM student facing charges assault charges related to a turbulent few weeks at the Montreal university, is finally out of jail.

Babou had to post a $750 bond and will have to stay with his family in St. Jean.

He is also barred from going to the UQAM campus.

Babou is charged with 15 offences of assault, uttering threats and assault with a weapon, in addition to mischief, harassment and unlawful assembly.

On April 15 the 23-year-old allegedly sprayed silly string at authorities while breaking an injunction preventing protests at UQAM.

Originally denied bail by a municipal court judge, a Superior Court judge overturned that ruling on Thursday and set Babou's bail conditions.

Babou is considered a leader of the protest movement at UQAM and he did not sign up fro any classes during the winter semester in order to concentrate on organizing demonstrations.
