A cyclist has died after being hit by a truck in Montreal.

Around 9:15 a.m. a large truck hit the cyclist near the intersection of Wellington St. and Nazareth St.

Witnesses say a CN truck was heading east and trying to make a right-hand turn off Wellington to enter the Bonaventure Expressway.

A cyclist who was following the truck got caught under wheels and was dragged several hundred metres.

A woman following the truck in a car saw the collision, and tried to get the truck driver's attention, only succeeding when the driver turned onto the Expressway's onramp at Nazareth St.

"The 43-year-old man, cyclist, was pulled under the truck for several numbers of metres under the truck on the street, and his death was confirmed by Urgences Santé directly at the scene," said Const. Simon Delorme of the Montreal police department.

Police did not want to assign blame, but said cyclists have to be very cautious when travelling near large trucks because of their large blind spots.

The witness was taken to hospital to be treated for shock, as was the 62-year-old truck driver.

The intersection was closed until 2 p.m. while police conducted their investigation.
