An 18-year-old woman is dead and three others, including her two younger brothers, are badly injured after a head-on collision east of Montreal.

The teenager crashed her vehicle into an SUV after veering into oncoming traffic at about 4:50 p.m. The crash happened in Saint-Liboire, a town about 75 kilometres east of Montreal, near Saint-Hyacinthe.

The 27-year-old driver of the SUV suffered serious injuries, but is expected to survive.

The teenager’s brothers, aged 14 and 16, also suffered serious injuries, but both will survive, say police.

Sgt. Ronald McInnis of the Surete du Quebec said that though it’s too early to say for certain, alcohol and speed don’t appear to be factors in the crash.

“She may have been distracted,” he said.
