A small plane has crashed in the backyard of a home in the Saint-Hubert neighbourhood of Longueuil.

The plane appears to have crashed outside a home at 1220 Jean-Baptiste-Charron St., a small, dead-end street near Raoul Ave., very near Route 116 to the airport. The plane crashed immediately after taking off from the Saint-Hubert airport.

A woman who appeared to be a teenager was piloting the plane, and also appeared to be wearing a flight school uniform, said neighbour Yvon Chateauneuf. He described an intense scene as he watched the plan flying only 100 feet above him it nosedived. He said he could tell the engine was turning too slowly, and rushed him family inside their house.

After the crash, he rushed out to see the plane had landed on his neighbours' spa. He rushed out, grabbed his garden out, and began watering the plane along with other neighbours who has the same instinct.

Chateauneuf said the victim was bleeding heavily but conscious, as he used an Exacto knife to cut her out of her seatbelt. He then "yanked her out," noting that she was "still awake," he said.

She was taken to hospital with minor injuries, said Jean-Guy Ranger, a spokesman for the Longueuil fire department.

The plane was a small, single-engine plane, a Cessna 150, registered to the Montreal Flying Club in Saint-Hubert.

First responders on the scene say the plane managed to avoid hydroelectric wires and the house before crashing in the backyard. Chateauneuf described the young woman as "very lucky."

Ranger said the Cessna hit a gazebo and a spa in the backyard of the home.
