Crews had to cut a massive hole into Laval Ave. after a sinkhole opened up on the Plateau street Thursday morning.

The hole appeared near St. Louis Square. People who live in the area say they noticed their water pressure was low Wednesday night. In the morning, they noticed water bubbling up on the street, and shortly after that, the road gave way. Residents

A 125-year-old pipe underneath the street burst, which in turn caused the hole to open up, officials say.

The street was closed and water was shut off so crews could start repairs.

The borough is aiming to have water turned back on Thursday night, and the road repaved and reopen by early next week.
