Quebec has placed the Order of Engineers under trusteeship.
Justice Minister Stephanie Vallée made the announcement just after 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
The Order, which certifies and disciplines all engineers in the province, has been subject to a number of internal disputes in recent months.
Vallée said that the provincial Cabinet decided to seize control of the professional order because of those crises.
"We need to help the administrative council come up with a permanent solution to the governance of the order," said Vallée.
She added that the internal scandals and arguments within the Order have made it unable to deal with its primary responsibility of protecting the public.
