The provincial Liberal party has given Elections Quebec $551,400, money that the political party collected from illegal donations.
Elections Quebec notified the Liberals of the illegal donations earlier this year, and the party promptly put half a million dollars in trust while the amount was verified.
The donations were apparently accumulated over the past six years, although Elections Quebec has not said whether the contributions came from individuals, politicians, or companies.
The Parti Quebecois was also fingered for accepting about $250,000 in illegal political donations over the same period of time.
In June Elections Quebec repaid $3,500 in illegal contributions that were made at some point before 2010.
