The Quebec Government is supporting the federal government's plan to expand Canadian air strikes against Islamic State into Syria.

The opposition NDP and Liberals have said they will vote against the plan to extend the military mission for 12 months, but Philippe Couillard and his government support the measure.

They say Islamic State, the theological group that is trying to take over the Middle East, must be stopped.

International Relations Minister Christine St-Pierre used stronger language.

"This is an organization which doesn't have any values. They are not human," said St-Pierre.

"What they want is to make sure we don't have our values. They don have values. We want to make sure that they don't continue with that destruction."

Members of the provincial Liberal government say they had some misgivings about assisting Syria's leader Bashar al-Assad, but said moving military forces into Syria was necessary because Islamic State did not recognize the borders of other countries.
