Bags of popcorn are being recalled because they might contain a dangerous bacteria.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency annouced the recall of "Popcorn Indiana" brand snacks, which are imported from the United States.

The bags of popcorn are sold in Quebec, Ontario, and all the Atlantic Provinces, but may also have been sold nationwide.

So far nobody has reported falling sick from eating the popcorn, which were exposed to Listeria monocytogenes bacteria.

Food contaminated by Listeria probabyl will not smell bad. It won't look spoiled and there is no easy way to tell if the food is safe to eat.

Listeriosis can had fevers, headaches, neck stiffness, nausea and diarrhea. Pregnant women can end up delivering their baby prematurely, or having a stillbirth.

People with weak immune systems, such as children and the elderly, may come down with meningitis or other dangerous complications.

 

Two lots of popcorn, sold in 255 gram bags, are being recalled.

The UPC number is 8 43571 00078 5.

The Best By dates are marked 18/FEB/2013 and 25/FEB/2013.
