A mail carrier was attacked by two pit bulls in Laval Monday morning.

It happened at around 10 a.m. on Mirelle St. in the Saint-Francois district.

The mail carrier approached a home on his route where the door had been left open. The dogs ran outside and attacked him in the driveway.

He suffered bites to his hands and forearms and was treated at the scene by Urgences Sante. He was later transported to hospital.

The owner of the dogs was fined $77 per dog for not having them on a leash and $271 per dog for the attack on the mail carrier.

A spokesperson for Laval Police said Quebec’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food is now investigating the case.

The animals were seized and are being evaluated by a veterinarian.
