MONTREAL—A mother, 32, and her four-year-old daughter were killed in an accident on Friday while they drove on Highway 137 near Granby in the Monteregie.

The accident took place just after 7 a.m. in Ste-Cecile-de-Milton, a village mid-way between Montreal and Sherbrooke. The child was severely injured in the crash and succumbed to her injuries at 8 p.m. at Ste-Justine Hospital.

Driving on slippery roads, the crash happened when the mother lost control of her minivan and left her lane and collided with an incoming van. The driver of the other vehicle was injured, but their life was not in danger.

The Surete du Quebec’s investigators are looking into the circumstances of the crash to understand how the deaths happened.
