Montreal will host this fall a summit on the use of the French language at work.

Culture and Communications Minister Helene David says the aim is to boost French in the city.

There's no date yet for the summit, but it will focus on workplace training and government aid for businesses with 11 to 49 employees trying to meet government language requirements.

The meeting is part of David's action plan to protect and promote the French language 40 years after Robert Bourassa's Liberal government declared French to be the official language of Quebec.

“For our government, the French language is a priority. Clearly, our culture and identity are closely related to this language, so we want to ensure its sustainability,” said David in a news release.

The minister says she wants to foster collaboration among employers, unions and the government.

The government also wants more efficiency from the Office de la Langue Francaise.
