Two dozen people were evacuated from a condominium on St. Jacques St. early Friday morning because of a fire.

The fire broke out around 5 a.m. on a second-floor balcony at 4321 St. Jacques St. in St. Henri and quickly spread to the inside of the building.

30 firefighters put out the flames very quickly and treated one person for smoke inhalation.

Damage to the building is estimated at $25,000. The cause of the fire starting is not yet known but so far there are no signs this was deliberately started.
