MONTREAL - Mario Deka, 50, appeared in Montreal court Thursday to be charged with second degree murder after allegedly stabbing his 33-year-old wife to death on Perras Blvd in Rivieres-des-Prairies early Wednesday morning.
Deka was in tears during his appearance and did not speak during his appearance. No family or friends appeared in the courtroom.
Deka had apparently called police to report the crime at 9 a.m.
When emergency crews arrived at the house, on Perras Blvd. between Voltaire St. and St. Jean Baptiste Blvd., the woman was unconscious and was declared dead at hospital at 9:50 a.m.
An 18-month-old girl was in the home at the time and will likely be placed in the custody of her extended family.
Neighbours said the couple had moved into the home about a year ago..
