A woman was stabbed to death Wednesday morning in a Riviere des Prairies home.

Montreal police rushed to the scene at 9 a.m. after getting a 9-1-1 call from a man who apparently reported that he had stabbed his wife multiple times in the upper body.

When emergency crews arrived at the house, on Perras Blvd. between Voltaire St. and St. Jean Baptiste Blvd., the 33-year-old woman was unconscious. Paramedics took her to hospital where she was declared dead at 9:50 a.m.

Police arrested a man, 50, at the scene and they are questioning him. Police spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant said it is likely the man will face charges, but that at the moment police are still trying to determine exactly what happened.

An 18-month-old girl was in the home at the time and will likely be placed in the custody of her extended family.

Neighbours said the couple moved into the home about a year ago, but that they did not know the family very well.
