Man acting as caregiver for sick mother set to be deported

A man who was in Canada to help his ailing mother is set to be deported Saturday evening.

Hector Reyes-Hidalgo came to Canada from Chile in 2010 to visit his mother -- and then filed for refugee status.

His mother suffers from ALS, and he has been her primary caregiver.

Immigration Canada said he has failed to meet the criteria to stay because he did not complete the proper application forms.

His plane for Chile was set to leave at 6 p.m.
