An engineering firm vice-president convicted of fraud has been released from custody while appealing her case.

France Michaud, formerly of Roche, was sentenced on Wednesday to 18 months in prison for fraud, breach of trust, and conspiracy.

She was immediately taken to jail following her sentencing, but has won permission to be released while her appeal makes its way through the legal system.

Justice Normand Bonin gave her, along with the mayor of Boisbriand, the same sentence for conspiring to win lucrative municipal contracts by breaking political funding laws.

Michaud is also facing charges in another case involving former deputy premier Nathalie Normandeau and an aide to former PQ leader Pauline Marois.
