Big upset in Quebec university football, as the Universite de Montreal Carabins beat Quebec City powerhouse Laval Rouge et Or Saturday 13-9 in Montreal.
The result left the teams even with 7-1 records to end the season but Laval was named top placed team due to their better point differential.
The Rouge et Or had not lost a game since losing the Vanier Cup in 2011, racking up 25 wins in a row.
Gabriel Cousineau scored the only touchdown of the game, for the Carabins, on a one-yard rush to make the score 10-9 in the third quarter. The Carabins had obtained favourable field position after Alex Cromer-Emond picked up a fumble off of Hugo Richard.
Rouge et Or quarterback Maxime Boutin had some good moments but failed to generate much sustained offence.
There was no scoring in the fourth quarter as the defences on both squads nullified all attempts to move forward.
Laval scored four points on singles by kicker Boris Bede, who also kicked a field goal in the third quarter.
