A 32-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder following a weekend stabbing in Ile Bizard.

According to police the victim was one of two people who showed up at a house on St. Maurice St. on Saturday evening and attacked a man inside.

Police say Steve Barnes retaliated by stabbing a man in the chest who later died of the injuries.

The victim has not been identified by police aside from saying he is a man in his thirties, but friends and family say he is George Berry.

The 24-year-old man who was also at the home was not hurt.

This was the 25th murder this year in Montreal.

The Montreal police force has an official count that includes the death of Helene Leduc, but a coroner later ruled her death was due to natural causes, and not related to being shot five years earlier.
