The SAAQ says too many drivers are failing to to respect the province's "move-over" law.

The law requires drivers to reduce their speed and change lanes when emergency vehicles are parked on the side of the road.

This applies to police cars, ambulances, fire trucks, Transport Quebec vehicles and tow trucks with their lights on or flashing.

In the year since the law has been in effect police have stopped 2,600 drivers for failing to move over, and each one has been issued a ticket for $200-300 and lost four points on their license.

Quebec was the most-recent province to introduce a move-over law, with similar laws in effect everywhere in Canada except New Brunswick, Newfoundland & Labrador, and the three territories.
