Even before the sixteenth annual 24H Tremblant began on Saturday, the charity event set a new record for donations, having raised its target of $2.7 million.

The 2015 event raised $2.6 million while $2.3 million was donated in 2014.

24H Tremblant Executive Producer Simon St-Arnaud said he’s proud of the results, adding that when the event began 16 years ago, it raised $300,000 with 300 people taking part.

This year’s edition will feature 3,000 participants who will ski and run for 24 straight hours, ending on Sunday at noon.

The money that is raised will be given to three foundations: the Charles-Bruneau Cancer Centre Foundation, the Ottawa Senators Foundation and the Tremblant Foundation.

Among the celebrities taking part this year are Olympic athletes Alexandre Bilodeau and Alexandre Despatie.

24H Tremblant was founded by racecar driver Jacques Villeneuve and his manager Craig Pollock, who were inspired by the 24-hour Grand Prix held in Villars, Switzerland.
