The Longueuil police are actively seeking the perpetrator or perpetrators of the vicious killing of a 23-year-old woman Tuesday night on a bike path between Chambly Rd. and Normandie St.
Police have not yet released her name. She was not carrying any identification on her.
The young woman was discovered by a passerby at 10 p.m. laying in a pool of blood on the dark, bike path in Old Longueuil.
Paramedics tried to revive the young woman, but she was declared dead on arrival at hospital.
Longueuil police said the victim is a 23-year-old woman who was on her way home after work.
Likely victim of a random attack, she was beaten repeatedly in the face.
Police won’t say if she was sexually assaulted.
Police set up a command post on Chambly Rd. overnight, where potential eyewitnesses are asked to meet investigators.
“We ask the public to come down here to our command post on Chambly if you have any detail. Even the tiniest detail, could be important in this investigation,” said Tommy Lacroix of the Longueuil Police.
Witness Philip Harmerling said he went jogging on the bike path Tuesday night and later told police about an encounter he had with three men shortly before the woman was attacked.
“I told them the description, I told them they were two -- I saw three. Two were sitting on the bench, and there was one standing in front of the bench very close to the other two other men. Two of them were white, 25-30 years old,” he said.
By late afternoon, despite meeting several people, police couldn't say if they were close to making an arrest.
They spent the afternoon combing the bike path, and looking for clues in a cemetery next to it.
Police remain at the scene Wednesday morning while they conduct their investigation.
