A four- or five-year construction project at the western edge of the Turcot yards begins this week.

Residents of Montreal West and NDG were warned in July that the most direct route to and from Highway 20 would be severely restricted in October.

Now Transport Quebec has confirmed that starting Thursday, Ste. Anne de Bellevue Blvd. (from the Petro Canada on St. Jacques Blvd. to Highway 20) will be restricted to two lanes east and one lane west until sometime in 2016.

Starting Oct. 20, Angrignon Blvd. over Highway 20 will be closed so additional ramps (needed for detours for the next four years) can be built. That work is expected to take four weeks.

Starting in December the major detours begin, with several entrances and exits to Highway 20 closed until November 2019, including:

  • the entrance and exit from Ste. Anne de Bellevue Blvd. to Highway 20
  • the entrance from St. Pierre Ave. to Highway 20 East
  • the closure of Montreal-Toronto Blvd. between St. Joseph Blvd./St. Jacques St. and St. Pierre Ave.

Brock Ave. South will also be closed, from Ronald Promenade to Richmond St. until Oct. 2016.

Construction crews are working Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with some work taking place overnight or on weekends.

During this time the entire configuration of the roadways, including the Ville St. Pierre interchange, the Montreal West interchange, and the Turcot Interchange will be rebuilt.

The work includes:

  • moving Pullman St.
  • building a service road for Highway 20 from Ste. Anne de Bellevue Blvd. to Angrignon Blvd.
  • demolishing a CN tunnel that goes under Ste. Anne de Bellevue Blvd.

Detours via Angrignon

Detours for the highway exit and entrance closures will run for up to four kilometres via Angrignon Blvd.

Transport Quebec will build a new exit on Highway 20 eastbound at Angrignon Blvd., and drivers heading to Montreal West or NDG will be able to use that exit, looping around on Pullman St. until they reach Ste. Anne de Bellevue Blvd.

Drivers who normally get on Highway 20 at Ste. Anne de Bellevue Rd. are being told to turn left on Pullman St., then turn south on Angrignon Blvd. and use that entrance to Highway 20 West.

Those who need to get to Highway 138 have a lengthy detour. They should follow the same initial route as those going to the 20 West, but instead of getting on the highway should remain on Notre Dame, then Victoria St., and continue past the St. Pierre interchange to 1st Ave. at which point they will have to get on Montreal-Toronto Blvd. heading east and then enter Highway 138.

Those who normally enter Highway 20 Eastbound via the St. Pierre Interchange are being told to parallel the highway on Notre Dame St. until they reach the next possible entrance, at Angrignon Blvd.

With access from St. Pierre Ave. to Ste. Anne de Bellevue Blvd. cut off, drivers are being told to take Notre Dame St. until Angrignon Blvd., then take Angrignon north to Pullman St. and follow that to Ste. Anne de Bellevue.
