A broken elevator has trapped a man who cannot walk on the floor of his apartment building for more than a week.

Michel Cordey, 29, said the elevator has  been broken ever since a power failure, while the intercom failed the week before that. It's only after a lot of complaining that his landlord is having the problem corrected.

"I learned about the elevator on the Tuesday morning because I was waiting for a package from FedEx for my work," said Cordey.

At that time he was able to talk to the delivery package on the intercom but the buzzer to open the front door did not work.

Cordey went down the hallway to let in what he believed to be his delivery only to discover he could not get to the ground level -- and so could not pick up his package.

A note reading "Out of Order" was posted to the elevator -- the only notice Cordey received

"I lost some time on my work because of that," said Cordey. He works from his home as a video editor.

Over the past week Cordey has had to rely on the generosity of a friend to buy and deliver groceries, since even if stores would bring goods to a building without a working elevator, they cannot get inside.

The self-employed man is also losing work while being trapped at home.

"I can understand a technical problem happening here and there but when it starts to affect the job that allows me to pay my rent, when I work from home, it's kind of hard right now," said Cordey.

Crews arrived Monday morning to begin work on the elevator, but said the problem would still require several days to be repaired.
