Supporters of embattled former Quebec cabinet minister Nathalie Normandeau have started a website to help raise funds for her defence.
The group, which is based out of the Gaspe region, was founded earlier in July. On the site, they praise Normandeau, saying she served the riding with “integrity and profound devotion.”
The group has set a fundraising goal of $300,000 for Normandeau’s legal fees and are accepting donations of up to $1,000. No tax receipts will be made available to donors.
According to the website, if the amount raised exceeds Normandeau’s expenses, the rest of the cash will be donated to a local non-profit.
Normandeau was arrested in March on charges of fraud, corruption and conspiracy for allegedly exchanging political funding for government contracts between the years 2000 and 2012.
