CRABTREE, Que. -- A two-year-old girl has died after being found at the bottom of a backyard swimming pool in Crabtree, just south of Joliette.
The girl was found in the family pool by her mother and was taken to a hospital in Joliette, in the Lanaudiere region.
The incident took place on 19th St. at about 2 p.m. Sunday.
Emergency workers attempted to resuscitate the child in vain. She was declared dead in hospital.
Surete du Quebec investigators were called to the scene to determine the cause of the incident. The girl's mother was also transported to hospital and will be met by SQ investigators when able.
There have been 22 drowning in Quebec since the beginning of 2013.
