An independent panel of experts has been named to study the impact of Montreal's planned sewage dump.

Earlier this week, Environment Canada stopped the city's plans to dump 8 billion litres of sewage into the St. Lawrence, saying the impact of the dump hadn't been properly studied.

McGill's Viviane Yargeau, Daniel Cyr from Universite du Quebec and Robert Hausler of Ecole de Technologie Superieure will be looking at the risks involved and will report their findings Nov 3.

On Friday, Mayor Denis Coderre called the stoppage unreasonable and political.
