A 26-year-old man has been brought in for questioning after an early morning shooting in St. Leonard.

Emergency crews rushed to Domremy St. early Thursday and discovered a taxi driver had been shot.

Around 2:15 a.m. someone called 9-1-1 to tell authorities they had heard gunfire.

The victim, a 36-year-old man, was rushed to hospital with at least one gunshot wound to his upper body.

Police describe the man they brought in for questioning as an important witness.

It appears his attackers had fired at least twice, since a bullet hole could be seen in the driver-side window, and a second hole had punched through the frame of the door.

Clement Gosselin lives right on the corner. He says he heard five gunshots, went to the window and saw a taxi parked near the curb with its flashers on.

Police are calling this an attempted murder, and the major crimes unit is investigating. Late Thursday, police said they've determined the shooting was not related to the driver's line of work.

Police cordoned off the area in the residential neighbourhood near the Martin Brodeur Arena as they searched for clues and witnesses.

Police also questioned a manager of Co-op Taxi, the company the driver worked for.
