MONTREAL - The lawyer representing a woman who was fined by transit inspectors for not having a ticket on a bus says that transit authorities have dropped the ticket against his client.

Pauline Tantost was ticketed for not having exact change while riding the 108 bus to Verdun with her son on July 26.

She offered the driver a five-dollar-bill but he complied with company practice and refused to take it.

Inspectors boarded the bus soon after and fined her $219.

Tantost got off the bus after receiving the ticket and walked home.

She vowed to fight the ticket and turned down many offers from strangers to pay the fine for her after the story became public.

The union representing the bus driver made a complaint to the STM as well asking for more flexibility in cases like this.
