The next phase of the Turcot Interchange construction begins Sunday evening next to the Glen Superhospital.

The St. Jacques exit of the 720 westbound will close at 11 p.m. Sunday and remain closed until the end of November.

"The work has to be done to make sure that we are going forward with the construction of Turcot and it's going to be done around the Pullman, St. Remi, so that it will match the new Turcot that will be totally constructed," said Mario St-Pierre of Transport Quebec.

Crews are going to be working under the interchange to shift a stretch of St. Jacques St. to the north, closer to the grounds for the Montreal superhospital.

This means detours and lane restrictions on St. Jacques St., St. Remi St., and the southernmost section of Decarie Blvd. for the duration of the construction project.

Transport Quebec said at least one lane on those roads will remain open at all times.

The ministry's suggested detour is to continue on the Ville Marie until the Decarie Expressway until the Cote St. Luc Rd. exit.

"You know on paper we're certainly satisfied they've done the best they can to put in place mitigation measures, but it's going to be another difficult period for people leaving the downtown core to get to to the west end," said Cote des Neiges - NDG Borough Mayor Russell Copeman

Drivers who frequently take St. Jacques St. say that even with the recent closure of the bridge over the Decarie Expressway, it remained much more convenient than other options.

"I love to take this exit," said one man on Friday morning. "It's much shorter, and that's the thing about Montreal, you have to go through 55 detours to get there."

Staff and patients at the Royal Vic and the Montreal Children's Hospitals have being warned of the change to traffic flow and told to allot more time to their commute. Detour signs in the area will be marked with an H for hospital.
