Gilles Duceppe is setting off on a two-week cross-county tour to see how Canadians feel about Quebec sovereignty.

The issue hasn't been much of a newsmaker for sometime, but the Bloc Quebecois leader still insists that Quebec sovereignty is inevitable.

Duceppe says whenever he's raised the issue in English Canada, he's received a polite reception.

"A distinct nation"

But the separatist party leader says the Meech Lake accord of 20 years ago that would have recognized Quebec as a distinct society, wouldn't be enough today to convince Quebecers to reject sovereignty.

He says Quebec is "a distinct nation" -- not a distinct society.

Duceppe's tour starts Tuesday with an appearance before university students in Fredericton and it will end in Vancouver.
