Quebec's public security minister said he won't tolerate police officers throughout Quebec refusing to wear their uniforms much longer.
For several years police officers in Montreal and cities have refused to wear their proper uniforms, either donning red baseball caps, a variety of bizarrely-coloured pants, cowboy costumes, or more outlandish gear.
It's all a protest against a pension reform and other changes made to municipal unions by the provincial government.
However on Tuesday, bailiffs and special constables throughout Quebec, members of the Special Constable Union (SCSQG) put on their standard uniforms as they reported to work in courthouses, the National Assembly, and elsewhere.
The union says it's a show of good faith as they negotiate changes to their contracts.
Public Security Minister Martin Coiteux said he appreciated the gesture, and urged other forces to do the same.
He has long said that a failure to wear the proper uniform could have serious consequences, and within the past month, he has been proved correct when a Saint-Come man successfully fought two traffic tickets in court because an officer was not in uniform.
