MONTREAL--A breath of fresh air this week from one of the most respected voices in French media
Alain Dubuc in La Presse wrote yes Montreal is a bilingual city.
And he eloquently makes the point that it is our duality that makes Montreal unique in the world
Without the Anglos, Montreal would be a big Quebec City.
Bilingualism is indeed what defines us
And after years of grievance on both sides, we have reached a balance. Or we had until the PQ came in to stir the pot and renew linguistic tensions with Bill 14. Dubuc writes Anglos are an asset, and not a threat to French
Yes the duality of Montreal is seen everywhere.
Most major cities today in the world are multicultural to some extent. It’s a given.
But Montreal is bilingual. And that’s what us special.
Those who deny our history and the reality only do so for partisan and mean spirited reasons.
You see, that’s been the big lie and too many people have swallowed it.
And the English speaking population is vilified.
But we and our language belong here as much as anyone.
This isn’t Survivor, we aren’t chasing Francophones off the island and they shouldn’t feel they have to do the same.
We can live in harmony and mutual respect without the meddling of anti-English politicians with self-serving agendas designed to agitate and sow division
Yes we do live in a bilingual city much to the eternal annoyance of the Pequistes and their ilk
Then there is this yahoo who is the aide to language czar Diane de Courcy.
That’s him sitting beside her in Bill 14 hearings in Quebec City
Akos Verboczy wrote an article titled “Anglos are crazy”.
He writes we are totally obsessed with language and they are impossible to talk to.
We live in a culture of victimization and self-flagellation he says
Really?
This is the kind of bonehead who is advising the minister on Bill 14?
We’re in more trouble than I thought
THE KING IS DEAD
It was a good week on the crime fighting front.
And man known as the King of Laval may have finally met his fate.
To charge a former mayor of a major city of running a criminal network is unprecedented and stunning.
The chickens have indeed come home to roost and it’s not over yet.
PQ READY TO POINT THE FINGER, AGAIN
And you know the fix is in with the PQ’s special commission announced this week to look into the last spring’s student demonstrations.
Like a Politburo kangaroo court, the experts will find the Liberals were to blame for everything that went wrong.
After all one of the commissioners is the former head of the CSN which helped finance the carre rouge movement.
And the chairman is a former PQ minister.
Their report is due at the end of the year.
Designed no doubt to be used in time for the next election.
Your money again used for partisan purposes.
With this gang it’s always the fault of others.
