The more we see the unveiling of the real Pierre Karl Peladeau, the more it is evident that this guy is not cut out for politics and if as expected, the PQ elects him the latest savior next week, they will get what they richly deserve
PKP is used to getting things his way. But politics is different from the boardroom especially when you own the company. The MNA for Quebecor it seems has quite a temper and doesn’t like it when people disagree or criticize him
Simply put, he acts like a bully.
Case in point: PQ leadership candidate Pierre Cere who told Maclean’s this week that Peladeau exploded, bullied him and swore at him after a debate and then asked him his price for his silence. Cere had the audacity to compare Peladeau to Citizen Kane in the classic film about the rise and fall of a publishing tycoon.
The Citizen Kane comparison did not sit well with Peladeau.
And then there is leadership rival Martine Ouellet who says Peladeau yelled at her after a debate because she dared ask him some tough questions. She says it’s the first time a supposed colleague has ever acted like that. Peladeau, for his part, downplayed the incident, calling it a normal conversation.
Maclean's also reports that Peladeau seemingly became enraged at a fundraiser a couple of years back when a former Quebecor executive came over to say hello. Maclean’s reports that Peladeau hissed and grabbed the man by his shirt swore at him and told him he had a lot of, let’s say nerve, for wanting to shake his hand. His soon-to-be-wife Quebec vedette Julie Synder reportedly had to calm him down.
Peladeau is trying to downplay all of the allegations about his notorious temper and intolerance. He is blaming “anglophone media” for starting it. What else is new?
Pequistes will be voting next week for the new leader and the results will be announced Friday night in Quebec City. Everything indicates that PKP will win because he is a wealthy Quebecois star with influence. It’s certainly not because of his policy ideas. He just keeps repeating the same mantra that he is running to take Quebec out of Canada and crack down on language. He’s a one-trick pony with a nasty streak and obviously a very bad temper. And he’s a bully who may one day get his comeuppance. He’s the Scut Farkas of Quebec politics.

If I were a Pequiste I would be worried. Since I’m not, I think it will be fascinating and quite enjoyable to watch the Peladeau moment unfold and I suspect unravel. Because one, Quebecers are not buying what he is selling and two, the salesman doesn’t appear to have much of a common touch nor sometimes common sense.
