Montreal police are searching for a man who assaulted a depanneur clerk during a robbery in April.

The attack happened just before 7 p.m. on April 25, 2016, at a depanneur on Jolicoeur St. at Hadley St.

The robber walked into the store, picked up several bottles of wine, and then placed them on the counter.

Police say that instead of paying for the alcohol he ran around the counter and began punching the female clerk, hitting her repeatedly while screaming at her to open the cash register.

The 58-year-old woman was badly hurt and lost consciousness.

Another employee heard the commotion and ran to the front of the store, whereupon he was hit by the assailant.

The attacker then fled on foot, taking two bottles of wine.

He is a black male, appearing to be in his mid-twenties, standing 1.8 m tall and weighing 77 kg (5'11", 170 lb).

At the time of the attack he had a short black beard.

He was wearing a two-tone beige jacket with a triangular motif on the back, over a yellow hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, white Nike brand sneakers, and a black baseball cap with a red bill.
