Police on the South Shore are looking for a man who tried to kidnap a two-year-old girl Thursday.

Police say the man was on a bike when he approached a girl walking with her mother near Levasseur Park in St. Constant, about 25 kilometres south of Montreal.

He grabbed the girl, put her on his shoulder and tried to take off, police say.

A passerby who heard the mother's cry for help stepped in and saved the girl, but the man got away.

The man is about 35 years old, six feet tall, and weighs roughly 230 pounds.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Surete du Quebec at 1-800-659-4269.
